Three Different Shelter
Programs
The Day Shelter Program operates seven
days a week from 8 AM to 4 PM This program provides
a safe
place for single women or women with children to spend the day. Meals, shower facilities, laundry
facilities, telephone and mail
service are available. Last year 15,593 women and
children utilized the
shelter program. There is no limit
to the number of days that women and children can spend in the
day shelter.
The
Emergency Shelter Program is available all year
and
provides 164 beds for stays from 30 to 90 days. In
this program,
everyone begins with a 30-day stay limitation. Extensions beyond
that period depend on the actions of the client with respect to
constructive use of time. If an individual uses her time constructively
and shows a commitment to move forward she is either extended in
this program or moved to the Transitional Shelter Program. All
clients meet with a Client Advocate on a weekly basis and are
encouraged to apply for the appropriate mainstream services.
Clients develop a formalized plan outlining a specific direction. A
multi-disciplinary team meets weekly to review each client's case
file and to determine progress being made.
The Transitional Shelter Program allows
for long-term stays. This program was specifically designed to
provide single women and women with children the additional time
needed to access other programs or to stabilize on their own.
All residents are assigned a Case Manager who assists them in
establishing a case plan that will help them move towards self-sufficiency.
Clients meet with their Case Manager twice each week to maintain
a focus on their established goals. Victims of domestic violence,
street crime, and elder abuse are typically admitted directly
to this program. The assigned Victim Advocate works closely with
the Case Manager to ensure integrated case management and services.
There are a total of 164 beds in this program - 80 for single
women and 84 for women with children.
Last year we provided a combined total of 66,273
nights of shelter.
