Advocacy for Victims
of Violence
No one, woman or child, should ever have to endure
violence at the hand of another.
Crisis intervention is provided on a daily basis
with staff available 24-hours a day.
They come in desperation, fearful and tremulous. Their fate is uncertain.
They have been victims
of domestic violence, street violence, sexual
assault, gang violence or elder abuse. We offer
them immediate safety
and protection.
We refer them to hospitals or safe houses, if necessary. We help
them fill out police reports and
obtain Temporary Protective Orders
(TPO). We provide cellular phones programmed for a direct
911 connection
and, in most cases, can offer transportation assistance.
Our victims of violence are helped to develop a "safety plan" to
help protect themselves and their children from future violence.
The safety plan prepares the women to make intelligent decisions
so that they and their children are living their lives in the safest
manner possible. We have three full time advocates for victims of violence; one of
whom is bilingual.
We maintain "Metro" beds at all times to allow for placement of
victims brought in by the police during the night. Separate
adult and children's support groups are held weekly and both are
confidential. We have very generous community partners who donate their time and
services to provide confidential transportation assistance to our
 clients. Job
skills development needs are now being met in-house. Although
this is a great resource to all women, it is particularly important
for victims of domestic violence who cite financial dependency as
the main reason for returning to their abuser. We help our women develop the skills, abilities, and attitudes that
will allow them to break the cycle of abuse. Only when they truly
value themselves will they have the strength and determination to
remove themselves from abusive situations - forever.
