Volunteers have an important role in contributing to the mission of The Shade Tree. By giving generously of your time and talents, you are a vital member of the team making a difference in the lives of the women, children and pets we serve.  Whether it is serving a meal, tutoring a child or walking a dog, we have a variety of ways for adults and youth over the age of 10 to get involved. For a complete list, click here. Please note that, due to the specific requirements of the programs we offer, we are unable to place every applicant.

For individual volunteers, please complete the following steps to become a registered volunteer:

Step 1: Complete an application here. A confirmation will be sent to you verifying receipt of your application.

Step 2: Attend an orientation. Orientation is required for all individual volunteers and will consist of a general overview of our program focusing mainly on opportunities available at The Shade Tree. An overview of the Shelter’s mission, volunteer policies and procedures will also be discussed at this time. Available orientation dates and times will be sent via email upon completing your application.

Please note that The Shade Tree does not accept volunteers needing court ordered community service for any felony or misdemeanor.

Family & Child Treatment of Southern NV

It is a fact that one in four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime. Domestic violence is a pattern of abusive behavior used to establish power and control over another person through fear and intimidation, often including the threat or use of violence. At The Shade Tree, over 26% of the cases we see are the result of domestic violence. When these women arrive at the shelter, many times they are insecure, fearful, angry, and desperate. They have lost hope and purpose in life. That hope though can be restored through a partnership The Shade Tree has with FACT (Families and Children Treatment) of Southern Nevada. [read more]
